"We are innately attracted to tools and resources that will allow us to create what God needs us to do. We only have to figure out what to do with the attraction."

Bio

Kim 1.jpg

Kim Calhoun is an educator, writer, spoken word poet, podcaster, and visual storyteller. She's swam in the world of art and creativity since a kid. By day, she teaches at a private high school in Baton Rouge, LA. Prior to that, she taught writing to students at Southeastern Louisiana University. One of her joys is hosting her podcast about faith and art, Five Bars.

Kim received her bachelor’s in journalism from Louisiana State University and her master’s in English creative writing from SLU. Through time, experience, and God's grace, she learned to merge her love for storytelling, film, and photography to create unique ways to tell stories.

Upon completing graduate school, Kim earned the 2018 D Vickers Award for Creative Writing from Southeastern Louisiana University. She's been published in places like the 2018 edition of Louisiana Emerging Writers Series by Z Publishing. She won the 2018 Open Mic at the annual Festival of Words in Grand Coteau, and she's been published in The Advocate newspaper during her brief stint there. She's also in the Crosscurrents in Composition textbook for Southeastern Louisiana University, and she recently contributed to a new textbook for high schoolers and college students. If it involves film, photography, or writing, she's excited to do it.

I live in Central, La. with her brilliant and loving husband, Davin, who is a machinist and guitarist.
